Formed in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1974 by Reggie Griffin (guitar, sax, keyboards), Anthony "A.J." Johnson (bass), and Harold Gooch (left shortly afterwards). Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds (guitar, vocals - joined July 4, 1976 - 2 weeks after high school graduation), Chuckie Bush (keyboards, vocals), Darryl "De'Rock" Simmons (drums/percussion, vocals - joined July 5, 1976), Robert Parson (drums) and Kevin "Flash" Ferrell (vocals - previously from a group called Rhythm Machine) joined in 1977. They were managed by Sid Johnson (co-writer of The Deele's hit "Two Occasions").
The band was dropped by the label in 1979 (new ownership of the parent company took over and let go of the R&B acts), and Babyface went on to join Crowd Pleasers, April, and in 1983, The Deele.
Simmons,"A.J." Johnson, Bush, Parson, and Ferrell later formed the group Redd Hott, whose only charting single was "Big Fat Bottom" in 1981.
Griffin joined West Street Mob in 1981, whose only hit was "Let's Dance (Make Your Body Move)". Griffin later worked with Chaka Khan ("I Feel For You") and recorded on Quincy Jones' label Qwest. His two albums were 'Mr. Everything' and 'Hot Fingers', which yielded one small hit called "Throw Down". More recently, Griffin worked with the Isley Brothers on their 1996 album 'Mission To Please', and he still continues to work with Babyface off and on on many projects.
